LIBERTY UTILITIES MAKES HOLIDAYS BRIGHT FOR LOCAL YOUTH AND FAMILIES IN NEED

APPLE VALLEY, CA, Dec. 28, 2016 – This holiday season, Liberty Utilities Apple Valley (Liberty Utilities) teamed up with several local organizations to bring joy and smiles to dozens of children and families in need by providing more than $14,000 in gift cards, toys, clothing items, donations and services.

“Liberty Utilities is helping make the holidays a little brighter for children and families in the communities we serve,” said Kristin Davenport, Business Administration Manager for Liberty Utilities Apple Valley. “We truly appreciate the partnerships with these wonderful organizations that have such a positive impact in the region.”

During the holiday season, Liberty Utilities provided Zacky Farm gift certificates to customers and families in need. Through a partnership with Alta Vista Public Charter School, 40 children and their families received gift certificates. In addition 40 gift cards and gift baskets were provided to randomly selected Liberty Utilities customers, as part of a partnership with United Way’s Inland Empire chapter (Desert Communities Region). And in Yermo, 40 residents received gift certificates through a partnership with the Barstow Sheriff’s Department.

Liberty Utilities employees presented a check for $8,300 to the United Way’s local chapter in December. The employees raised the money throughout the year to support the organization’s efforts including local health programs, education and financial stability initiatives, and providing relief to those impacted by recent wildfires.

Also in December, Liberty Utilities donated nearly 100 pairs of shoes and socks for local boys and girls to the Apple Valley Schools Foundation’s (Foundation) Shoe Bank Project. Together, the Foundation and Apple Valley Unified School District identify students in need and provide them with new shoes.

The Happy Trails Children’s Foundation in partnership with the Trinity Youth Services operates the Cooper Home which is a safe haven, long-term residential care and treatment center for abused boys.  On December 21, Liberty Utilities donated Target store gift cards to all 40 boys that currently reside at Cooper Home.

Additionally, Sunset Hills Children’s Foundation, which offers counseling services for children grieving over the loss of a loved one, received a $1,000 donation from Liberty Utilities.

Liberty Utilities also contributed $1,000 to High Desert Homeless Services to help shelter clients become independent, financially stable and self-sufficient. The local non-profit assists residents of the Victor Valley and High Desert area of San Bernardino County who have been displaced from long-term housing due to natural disaster or loss of income, and to assist non-residents by providing short-term emergency shelter.

In Yermo, Liberty Utilities delivered 29 pairs of shoes and eight jackets for boys and girls at Yermo School. Toys collected and donated by Liberty Utilities employees during the month of December were delivered to the Barstow Sheriff’s Station for distribution to local children throughout the community.

“Giving back to the community is part of our mission. It is especially fulfilling to see our company’s commitment and support of the worthy organizations and causes our team cares so deeply about,” said Davenport. “There’s nothing like seeing the smile of a young person, especially during the holidays.”
